Notes on ProductPrevious video standards (composite, “S”, component, RGB) transmit an analog signal. When two digital devices are connected with HDMI or DVI, the digital signal stays clearer and noise-free. Both the DVI-D and the more recent HDMI transmission standards come from the same “working group.” Both systems transmit the same uncompressed digital video signal. The only two differences you must know: 1) The connectors are different. 2) HDMI inputs and outputs are capable of digital audio, DVI-D is video only. AudioQuest premium quality adaptors, from DVI-D to HDMI or from HDMI to DVI-D, allow either HDMI or DVI-D cable to be used with any equipment. Both HDMI and DVI-D cables can carry digital audio, but only HDMI equipment can send or receive digital audio. See pictures below. AudioQuest/CinemaQuest DV-1 uses large 2.5% silver conductors (twice the silver of normal silver-plate). Solid High- Density Polyethylene is used to minimize loss caused by insulation, and to insure critical geometry stability. Two RF Stoppers prevent interference problems. Notes on ProductPERFECT-SURFACE SILVER: Everest uses extremely high purity Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) conductors. All conductors are solid, which prevents strand interaction, a major source of distortion. Surface quality is critical because a conductor can be considered as a rail-guide for both the electric fields within a conductor, and for the magnetic fields outside the conductor. The astonishingly smooth and pure Perfect-Surface eliminates harshness and greatly increases clarity compared to other premium coppers or silvers. Because silver-plated strands, or anything less than the highest purity silver, often have an obnoxious tweeter-in-your-face quality, if you have heard any such cables, you will likely be stunned by the pleasure and sonic purity of PSS silver. DIELECTRIC-BIAS SYSTEM (patent pending): Unfortunately, because insulation stores and releases energy, it is also a “dielectric.” In a cable application, all released energy is distortion. The misnomer “break-in” is often used to describe the pronounced improvement in performance as the dielectric adapts to a charged state as the cable is used. Whenever a cable does not have a charge on it, it is re-adapting to an uncharged state; it is becoming new again. By maintaining a 72 volt dielectric-bias, far above the voltage of delicate audio signals, the DBS system provides considerably better transparency and dynamics than is possible even from a cable in continuous use. Notes on ProductAt first glance, G-Snake’s design looks like a traditional coaxial cable. However, there are many very important differences, each of which greatly influences sound quality. DESIGN BASICS: G-Snake has identical conductors for the positive and ground connections. Underneath the 100% coverage foil shield is a bare conductor, exactly the same as the insulated center conductor. The conductor under the shield does double duty as a low distortion audio connection, and as the drain wire connecting the shield to ground. CONDUCTORS: Both of G-Snake’s conductors are solid. Electrical and magnetic interaction between strands in a conventional cable is the greatest source of distortion, often causing a somewhat dirty harsh sound. Solid conductors are the most important ingredient enabling G-Snake’s very clear sound. METAL: G-Snake’s LGC (Long-Grain Copper) allows a smoother and clearer sound than cables using regular OFHC (Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity) copper. OFHC is a general metal industry specification regarding “loss,” without any concern for distortion. LGC has fewer oxides within the conducting material, less impurities, less grain boundaries, and definitively better performance. INSULATION: Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation, circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. The general cable industry ranks insulating materials by loss, with little regard for distortion. AudioQuest ranks materials by damage to an audio signal. The PVC used in G-Snake has too much loss to be used in a quality video cable, but it has a very benign distortion profile through the audio range, keeping G-Snake’s sound pleasant and natural. TERMINATIONS: Precision gold plated plugs are carefully attached with the very best solder. Through choice of flux and metallurgy, AQ solder has been optimized to make a low distortion connection. All solder, including “silver solder,” is a poor conductor. The difference you hear between solders is a result of connection quality. AQ Solder does not have a high silver content because the more silver there is in solder, the more difficult it is to make a good connection. Amazingly clean and effortless performance is made possible by a sophisticated combination of extraordinary materials and extremely refined design. CONDUCTORS: All eight of Gibraltar’s conductors are solid. Electrical and magnetic interaction between strands in a conventional cable is the single greatest source of distortion, often causing a somewhat harsh, dirty and confused sound. Solid conductors are the most important ingredients enabling Gibraltar’s very clear sound. Whether a conductor is solid or stranded, skin-effect is a prime distortion mechanism in speaker cables. GEOMETRY: The relationship between conductors defines a cable’s most basic electrical values (capacitance and inductance). However, even when those variables are kept in a reasonable balance, the relationship between conductors can be varied in ways that greatly effect the sound. The dual spiral construction of Gibraltar allows for significantly better dynamic contrast and information intelligibility than if the same conductors were run in parallel. The specific 4-cross geometry used in each half of Gibraltar maximizes this advantage. In addition, Gibraltar is an exceptional Single-Biwire cable. When the halves are separated at the speaker end, the double quad-helix design turns Gibraltar into a true double-biwire set thanks to the magnetic autonomy of each quad-helix. On it’s own; one quad would be a little lightweight in performance as it is biased towards treble finesse. The other quad is biased toward the bass; it’s more forceful and lacking ultimate resolution. Notes on ProductAt first glance, Sidewinder's design looks like a traditional coaxial cable. However, there are many very important differences, each of which greatly influence sound quality. DESIGN BASICS: Sidewinder has identical conductors for the positive and ground connections. Underneath the 100% coverage foil shield is a bare conductor, exactly the same as the insulated center conductor. The conductor under the shield does double duty as a low distortion audio connection, and as the drain wire connecting the shield to ground. CONDUCTORS: Both of Sidewinder's conductors are solid. Electrical and magnetic interaction between strands in a conventional cable is the greatest source of distortion, often causing a somewhat dirty harsh sound. Solid conductors are the most important ingredient enabling Sidewinder's very clear sound. METAL: Sidewinder's LGC (Long Grain Copper) allows a smoother and clearer sound than cables using regular OFHC (Oxygen Free High Conductivity) copper. The "HC" in OFHC means High Conductivity. OFHC is a general metal industry specification as to "loss," without any concern for distortion. LGC, with it's fewer oxides within the conducting material, less impurities and less grain boundaries, has better performance. INSULATION: Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation, circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. The general cable industry ranks insulating materials by loss, with little regard for distortion. AudioQuest ranks materials by damage to an audio signal. The PVC used in Sidewinder has too much loss to be used in a quality video cable, but it has a very benign distortion profile through the audio range, keeping Sidewinder's sound pleasant and natural. TERMINATIONS: Precision gold plated plugs are carefully attached with the very best solder. Through choice of flux and metallurgy, AQ solder has been optimized to make a low distortion connection. All solder, including "silver solder," is a poor conductor. The difference you hear between solders is a result of connection quality. AQ Solder does not have a high silver content because the more silver there is in solder, the more difficult it is to make a good connection. A combination of these major ingredients, and many more subtle details add up to explain how even an inexpensive cable like Sidewinder can sound so good.
